The Louis firebasket is small, but heavy for its size. The unit is trapezoidal, which does effect the visual volume of the unit inside of the fireplace, so please keep this in mind when sizing it for rectangular fireplaces. This is an all-cast fire grate. The finials and fretwork are very intricate. And the back plate has a ceramic firebrick built-in, which is an authentic detail only the best replicas contain.

NOTE: Originally, a ceramic firebrick was a detail only included in the finest fire grates. It’s purpose is to help with heating and also to prevent the coal from warping/deforming the iron back of the unit. This is because coal is one of the only solid fuels able to physically melt steel.
