The Georgian Dog grate is a unique firebasket. The firedogs are avialable in brass or bronze. The dimension sizes this as a fairly large unit, but the visual volume of this unit is not that big. The weight is reflective of this attribute. With that said, we recommend this unit be sized as a snug fit, not to be used in fireplaces over 40″ wide; and preferably a fireplace that has a back width at 35″ or less. It does have a ceramic firebrick.

NOTE: Originally, a
ceramic firebrick was a detail only included in the finest fire grates. Its
purpose is to help with heating and also to prevent the coal from
warping/deforming the iron back
of the unit. This is because coal is one of the only solid fuels able to
physically melt steel.
